Chiang Mai CAD Lantern Festival FAQs
1. Which Date Should I Choose? 24th or 25th November 2026?
Both nights offer the same experiences, including mass lantern launches, monk blessings, and traditional rituals. Whether you attend on the 24th or the 25th, you will participate in the same symbolic lantern releases and Loy Krathong ceremonies.
If your schedule allows, we highly recommend attending the event on 5 November—you’ll be among the first to experience the ceremony and share exclusive content on social media.
2. When Will I Receive the E-Ticket and How to Use It?
We will email you the URL of the e-ticket within 24 hours of receiving your payment. If you have not received it, please check your junk folder and move our email to your inbox.
We suggest downloading it to your mobile phone or printing it out for easy identification.
On the tour date, show the e-ticket on your phone at the registration booth at the meeting point. Staff will provide you with a souvenir and a seat badge and assist with transfers.
3. Are Yi Peng and Loy Krathong the Same Festival?
No, they are different.
Yi Peng (Sky Lantern Festival): This is a traditional celebration unique to the Lanna culture of Chiang Mai. Participants release sky lanterns to make wishes and seek blessings.
Loy Krathong (Water Lantern Festival) is a national festival across Thailand, where people float decorated baskets to show gratitude to the Goddess of Water.
In Chiang Mai, the two festivals are held at the same time and are commonly known as the Double Lantern Festival, with Yi Peng as the main highlight.
4. How Are Seats Allocated? Can I Choose My Seat? Can My Group Sit Together?
Seats will be automatically assigned within your selected ticket zone on a first‑booked, first‑served basis. Seat selection is not available.
We will prioritize keeping group seats together according to your booking order.
5. Is There a Dress Code for the Ceremony?
Although the Yi Peng Festival doesn’t have a strict formal dress code, there are cultural norms and practical tips that can enhance your experience and show respect. Here’s a suggestion of what to wear and what to consider.
Do’s
Don’ts
Wear modest, comfortable clothing
Don't wear revealing or offensive attire
Consider traditional Lanna white clothes for cultural immersion
Wear high heels or formal shoes
Layer up for temperature changes
Avoid wearing loose clothing near flames
6. What Kinds of Dishes Are Offered at the Venue?
The CAD venue offers six ticket categories: Standard, VIP, Premium, Gold, Platinum, and Elite. Each ticket includes dinner and specifies a different food zone. Standard tickets, for example, provide meals at the 'standard food zone', while VIP and Premium tickets offer dining in the 'VIP food zone' and 'premium food zone'. This clearly shows that access to the food zones depends on the type of ticket you hold.

7. Can I Drive or Take a Taxi to the Venue?
Yes, you have the option to drive yourself or take a taxi to the venue. Complimentary on-site parking is available for those who choose to drive.
Please note that the official shuttle service is an integral part of your ticket and cannot be refunded separately, regardless of your method of arrival.
Additionally, extensive traffic restrictions will be in place on the event day. This will likely cause severe traffic congestion in the immediate vicinity of the venue.
8. Are There Any Places to Recharge Phones at the Venue?
Yes, you can find designated Charging Areas to recharge your phone at the CAD festival venue.
The festival set up special charging zones with multiple charging points. These areas are typically equipped with rows of power sockets and USB ports and are often located in high-traffic areas, such as the guest registration area, dining area, or other public spaces.
9. How Do I Launch Lanterns?
Even though the ritual is very meaningful, it’s important to put fire safety and protecting the environment first. Many festivals now use eco-friendly lanterns and have people there to watch over the launches to keep risks low.
If you’re not sure what to do, watch the video instructions on your ticket voucher before the show. They provide clear guidance to help you stay safe and enjoy yourself.
Note: The lantern’s wick is made of tissue soaked in wax. We are buying sky lanterns that have fallen around the event area to dispose of them properly.
10. What Should We Do If We Are Late for the Pick-Up Time?
The pick-up time is between 1 pm and 3 pm. The last bus will depart for the venue at 4 pm to pick up customers who are late. If you cannot arrive before 4 pm, please take a taxi directly to the venue. If you miss the group transfer, the operator may allow you to join late if the event is still ongoing. However, activities such as lantern preparation or cultural performances may be delayed or missed.
