Trains Between Bangkok and Phuket

Most travelers going to Thailand will visit Bangkok and Phuket. Located in Southern Thailand, Phuket is the country’s largest island and a world-renowned tropical tourist destination.

It features crystal clear water, world-class beaches, diving sites, and other water activities. It is also home to numerous top resorts.

Many people head to Phuket from Bangkok, making the Bangkok – Phuket line one of the most important transportation routes. Currently, there are several ways to travel between Bangkok and Phuket: train, bus, airplane, and taxi.

There are no direct trains from Bangkok to Phuket. The nearest transfer point is Surat Thani. From Surat Thani, there is a 3-hour bus journey to Phuket.

Bangkok – Phuket Railway

Twelve trains operate daily between Bangkok and Surat Thani, including 11 overnight trains and one daytime train. The journey duration is about 12 hours.

How to Buy Tickets

You can purchase combined train and bus tickets. The bus you will travel on with a combination ticket will be air-conditioned, modern, and comfortable.

You can buy your combination ticket online or off-line. Buying tickets online in advance with a reliable travel agency like Train Spread is recommended.

If you want to buy your ticket off-line, there is a special window for foreign travelers at Hua Lamphong Railway Station, which sells combined train and bus tickets from Bangkok to Surat Thani.

You can also buy your train ticket and bus ticket separately. The bus fare for the journey from Surat Thani Railway Station to Phuket Bus Terminal is around 180 baht.
