Get ready to be amazed by Huangguoshu Waterfall, the largest and most magnificent waterfall in China! Standing 77 meters tall and 101 meters wide, this natural wonder roars down with breathtaking power and beauty. Surrounding the main waterfall are 18 smaller cascades, together forming the Huangguoshu Waterfall Cluster, which spans an impressive 163 square kilometers. Recognized by Guinness World Records as the largest waterfall cluster in the world, it’s truly a paradise for nature lovers and photographers alike.
Must-Visit Spots in the Huangguoshu Waterfall Scenic Area
The Huangguoshu Scenic Area is vast, and most visitors prefer to focus on its highlights rather than explore every corner. Here are the must-visit attractions you shouldn’t miss:
Water Curtain Cave – The Monkey King’s Headquarters
Hidden behind the roaring Huangguoshu Waterfall is the legendary Water Curtain Cave, a natural wonder standing about 50 meters high. Inside, you can get up close enough to touch the waterfall itself—a thrilling, once-in-a-lifetime experience! The cave was featured as the Monkey King’s headquarters in the world-renowned Chinese TV series Journey to the West.
Because of this rare, zero-distance encounter and the limited space inside, advance reservations are required to enter the cave. (If you book with us, we’ll make the appointment free of charge for your convenience.)
Since water seeps through the cave roof, visitors are advised to wear raincoats and non-slip shoes—it can get quite wet and slippery inside!
Water Curtain Cave
Sky Star Bridge Area – Silver Necklace Waterfall
In this scenic area, the waterfall resembles a shimmering silver necklace cascading gracefully into the emerald lake below. The surrounding lush forests and mysterious karst caves add even more charm to the landscape.
Doupotang – The Roaring Waterfall
Even wider than the main Huangguoshu Waterfall by 4 meters, Doupotang impresses visitors with its sheer power and grandeur. During the rainy season, torrents of water thunder down the cliffs, creating a roaring spectacle that feels like thousands of charging soldiers surging forward. It’s one of the most awe-inspiring sights in the entire scenic area!
