Trains Between Hanoi and Hue

The Hanoi to Hue railway line is one of the most popular in Vietnam. It is a section of the North-South Railway from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon). Hue is at the middle of the line.

Hue was Vietnam’s capital during the Tay Son dynasty (1778-1802 AD) and Nguyen dynasty (1802-1945 AD). Large numbers of tourists visit Hue, attracted by its historical sites.

Trains from Hanoi to Hue: SE1, SE3, SE5, SE7, SE9, SE11, SE19

There are eight trains running between Hanoi and Hue. All terminate at Hanoi and Saigon. SE5, SE7 and SE11 are daytime trains. SE1, SE3, SE9, SE17 and SE19 are overnight trains.

Getting to Hanoi Train Station

From Dong Da

If you’re near Dong Da, getting to Hanoi Train Station is easy and flexible:

Walking: It’s just a 26-minute walk—a nice option if you’re traveling light and enjoy strolling through the city.
By Taxi: Carrying luggage or short on time? A taxi is the best choice. The ride takes about 9 minutes and costs around USD 3.

From Noi Bai International Airport

Getting to Hanoi Train Station from the airport can be a bit more complex. The total travel time is Around 2 hours

By Public Bus:

Exit the terminal, head east, and turn right.
Walk about 100 meters to the Bai Do Xe Cau Giay bus stop.
Take Bus No. 7 and get off at Doi Dien Tong CTY DV Vien Thong.
Transfer to Bus E08 at Khu Do Thi Times City.
Ride 9 stops to arrive at Hanoi Train Station.

By Taxi:

A far more convenient option. The ride takes about 40 minutes and costs approximately USD 17.

Getting from Hue Train Station

To Imperial City

This Imperial City is located about 2.5 kilometers from the train station.

Walking: Around 32 minutes—As you walk across the 542-meter-long Da Vien Bridge, you’ll enjoy beautiful views of the Perfume River—a perfect spot for sightseeing.
By Taxi: As there is no bus from the station to the Imperial City, taxi is a faster and more comfortable option. The trip takes about 5 minutes and costs around USD 6.

Lang Co Beach

Lang Co Beach is located approximately 62.7 kilometers from the train station and is only accessible by taxi. The ride takes about an hour and costs around USD 38.
