Da Lat is a small city. The most convenient way of getting there from other cities is by bus. It has an ancient train station which has basically stopped functioning and has become a popular tourist site instead.
Da Lat Station was designed by French architects Moncet and Reveron, and built in typical French style. Bright red and yellow are used as the main colors. It is considered the most beautiful station in Vietnam.
The station was built between 1932 and 1938. Some years later, the station stopped functioning because of war, and didn’t resume service until 1990. Currently the station has basically stopped serving passengers. Only a daily tourist train departs from here for an 8 km trip to Trai Mat village.
It is a small station, with few passenger-service facilities. There are a couple of quaint train carriages and locomotives there just for display, as well as a small ticket window where tickets to the village of Trai Mat are sold. There is a nice waiting room with old furniture, a souvenir store and a small coffee shop.
There are 5 trains daily between Da Lat and the village of Trai Mat. But the train may be cancelled if there are fewer than 25 passengers. The 14:00 train is said to be sure to run every day.
