Each high-speed train carriage is equipped with air-conditioning, to maintain suitable temperature and humidity inside the train. The air-conditioning controls the temperature automatically. Usually the temperature inside the train is set at 23 to 25 degree Celsius (73 to 77 degree Fahrenheit). In summer, it is a good idea to bring a coat on board in case you feel cold.
Dining car
Each high-speed train has a dining car, usually in the No. 5 carriage. Chinese packaged meals and snacks are provided. You can also buy soft drinks like tea, milk and bottled watered in the dining car.
In dining car, there are no separate seats and table for you to sit down and eat. You can take your food back to your seat.
Meals and soft drinks are provided for free for business class passengers. For passengers holding first and second-class tickets, meals are offered at extra cost.
A water dispenser is equipped at the end of each carriage. Disposable paper cups and boiling water are provided for free. The green light on the dispenser indicates the water has boiled. The red light indicates the dispenser is heating up.
Luggage racks are equipped at the top of each carriage, above the two rows of seats. The luggage rack is 40-50 cm (16-20 inches) in width and 50-60 cm (20-24 inches) in height. They are suitable for bags and 24-26 inches suitcases.
Larger and heavier suitcases can be placed in the luggage closets at the connection of carriages. Each closet is 100 cm (39 inches) in height and 80 cm (31 inches) in width.
Power sockets can be found on high-speed trains. In first and second classes, power sockets are equipped at the bottom of the seat. In business class, power socket is available at the armrest of each seat.
Both western and squat toilets are available on high-speed trains. They are set at the end of each carriage. Toilet paper is provided, but always run out. Some restrooms have washbasins inside.
A handicapped rest room is available on the No. 5 carriage. Toilet in the handicapped restroom is in western style. An automatic door, a changing table for babies, hand rails and an SOS button are equipped in the handicapped restroom.
Washbasins can be found at the end of each carriage. A mirror is equipped above the washbasin for passengers to make up. Only cold water is available and it is not drinkable.
Garbage bins are equipped at the connections of carriages.
All carriages are equipped with smoke alarms and fire extinguishers. Each carriage is also equipped with several emergency hammers on windows.
Smoking is not allowed on any high-speed trains, not even at the connection of the carriage or in the toilet.
Free Wi-Fi is only available on "Fuxinghao" high-speed trains. Other high-speed trains don't have Wi-Fi available.
